New Way of Operating at Kalyx

Posted on April 26, 2023 in Media Release

It’s been a few years now since we formally reviewed the way we are structured operationally at Kalyx. During this time our business has continued to evolve as we’ve added new branches, introduced new services, diversified the number of crops we work on and as a result increased the size of the team.

Whilst things have gone reasonably well, it was time to reflect on where we were at. Kalyx is different in many ways to other CROs operating in Australia and New Zealand. Some of these differences are immediately advantageous, but others require a different strategy when it comes to how we organise ourselves.

Whilst an increase in demand is generally good for business, if we don’t continue to effectively manage resources and workloads, we can end up over burdening our staff and trial quality will inevitably suffer. Our Business Managers have felt the impact of this with increases in the number of reports they oversee.

The good news is that often the best solutions to these problems are not complicated and to this effect we have made some changes for 2023 with an initiative that has evolved naturally in our Eastern Business Unit which has enjoyed much success in recent years.

This will come in the form of what we are internally referring to as an Organisational Evolution whereby you will see some subtle changes at Kalyx.

As of this month, whilst our Business Managers will continue to oversee our 5 Business Units being North, South, East, West and New Zealand, operational management will be more at a localised regional level.

This change will be made possible with our new Regional Leads. Don’t worry – these are not new appointments as all are existing Kalyx staff who will take on some additional responsibility as we share the load more evenly across the team.

The other change you may notice is that our Business Leads that head up our Breeding, Agronomy and Horticultural divisions have now been renamed as Technical Managers. There are no staffing changes associated with this, it’s purely a name change to align better with the new Regional Leads and avoid confusion between the two roles.

This structure will still take advantage of all the systems, processes and supporting roles present across the business. You should notice very little difference to the way we are operating– aside of course from an increase in quality and service levels.
