Executive Team

Kalyx is managed by a team of Five Executive Directors who are shareholders in the business. All have extensive experience in the operation and management of an Agricultural Research Company.

Director - Commercial

Ashley Bacon - B.Sc. (Agric) Hons, MBA

Ashley heads up all Commercial and Financial operations of Kalyx Australia. With an MBA and over 15 years practical experience managing trials and all aspects of the business Ashley is well positioned to steer the financial direction of Kalyx Australia. Ashley has an interest in IT and Systems and with this takes on the responsibility of continually developing customised Trial Management Systems to improve our efficiency in the field and the office as well as deliver new and innovative services to our clients.

Director - Agronomy

Peter Hamblin B.Sc

Pete is the National Agronomy Manager and Southern Australian Business Manager for Kalyx Australia. He has over 22 years hands on experience conducting and managing trial programs in Southern Australia and extensive knowledge and experience in all areas of trial management and business development. Pete oversees the offices in Southern Australia including Young, Naracoorte and Horsham, combined with managing the business relationships with our National Agronomy clients.

Director - Northern Business Manager

Denis Harvey B.Sc.Ag.

Denis is the Northern Australian Business Manager with a real passion for summer agronomy. He and his team run a comprehensive summer and winter trial program throughout southern Qld and northern NSW. In a previous life Denis managed the R&D program for Syngenta for 10 years before taking on the challenge of establishing and growing our NNSW office in 2007. Denis has a real affinity with farming systems and plays a national role in ensuring there is consistent quality control in all aspects of trial management across the Kalyx Australia trial program.

Director - Human Resources & WH & S

Sue McGregor B.Ag.Sc

At Kalyx Sue takes on the huge responsibility of looking after our most precious resource - our people. Sue manages our Human Resources and Work Health & Safety compliance across Australia. She has over 20 years experience working with people in agriculture in NSW & Qld. Sue has sound agronomy and farming knowledge mixed with a great respect of people. Her goal is to ensure that everyone at Kalyx feels safe in their workplace, are challenged professionally and personally, and are rewarded appropriately for their efforts.

Director - Western Business Manager

Barrett Sinclair - B.Sc. (Agric) Hons

Barrett has 15 years' experience in the areas of agronomic consulting and research. He joined Kalyx in 2001 and has a great understanding of the commercial aspects of agriculture and comes with significant knowledge in conducting and supervising field trials in WA. Barrett manages all Agronomic and logistical operations across the wide trial landscape of WA. Barrett plays a national role with Denis in managing the quality control of field trials. He also assists with Sue in ensuring our WH&S obligations are maintained in WA.

Field Operations Team Leaders

The Kalyx field units are managed by a team of experienced trial professionals. In each distinct geographical region we have senior staff responsible for knowing the ins and outs of every trial in their region. These guys are the frontline of our research program. They work with our Senior Plant Mechanics to engineer and develop machinery required in the line of duty.

Rob Presser B.App.Sc.Ag

Field Operations Manager - SNSW

Rob, our most experienced trials agronomist has close to 20 years in the field in conducting trials- both in breeding and crop protection. He has been part of our business for 13 years. Rob has a very 'hands on' approach to trial management and is actively involved in seeding and harvesting of the trial program and is involved with the training and supervision of new staff. Rob has an excellent reputation among the clients and plant breeders for his attention to detail, his willingness to go the extra mile, and the quality of his work.

Matt Davey - B.Agribus

Assistant Branch Manager WA.

Matt has been an integral part of the Western Australian research team since 2007, conducting research across the state and now fittingly manages the Plant Breeding arm of the WA business unit. Matt has extensive on farm experience being the son of a farmer and has an excellent understanding of farming systems in WA. His focus on conducting quality trials is demonstrated every year in the trials under his management ensuring seeding is accomplished in a timely manner and supervises a large workforce over the harvest period

Nathan Eulenstein B.Ag.Sc.

Branch Manager SQLD

Nathan originates from a grain property near Bellata in NNSW and joined the business in 2009 after 4 years with Deltapine and Monsanto. After managing the Summer Crop and Cotton Breeding program in Narrabri, Nathan moved to Toowoomba 2014 to open and manage SQLD Branch servicing Southern and Central Qld. He and his team run trials throughout the year servicing a number of cropping systems including summer and winter cereals, cotton, horticulture and pastures. He is a well-rounded researcher with the ability to think clearly and logically and is always up for a challenge. He establishes industry networks easily and is a valued agricultural professional in the Toowoomba region.

Nic Amos B.Sc.Ag.

Branch Manager SA/VIC

After completing a Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) degree at Adelaide University Nic started with us and spent several several years working out of the Young office, Nic returned to SA and started up the Naracoorte operation in 2011. With 10 years’ experience in managing Plant Breeding and Agronomy trials, Nic has demonstrated to the clients in South Australia and Victoria that the quality of his team's work is second to none and has quickly established a fantastic reputation. Nic manages both the Naracoorte and Horsham branches and is complemented by an additional 9 staff.

Dave Dewsbury

Senior Plant Mechanic/Machinery Manager

With 28 years' experience with the University of Sydney Plant Breeding Institute, Dave has a specific expertise in the operation and maintenance of Kingaroy and Wintersteiger small plot headers which are a key component of our business. Dave is a qualified diesel mechanic and is responsible for the service and maintenance of all of Narrabri's vehicles and all other plant and equipment. Dave has worked tirelessly recently rebuilding a cotton picker to suit the requirements of the cotton research program.

Research Agronomy Team

Kalyx prides itself on the quality of its staff. All of our research agronomists are responsible for the management of trials and the writing of final reports. They are science or ag science trained and all understand the importance of adhering to protocols developed by clients.

Peter Carlton PhD, B.Sc. (Agric) Hons

Peter has spent the last 20 years in the Agricultural industry in Western Australia. He completed his Bachelor of Science with Honours at UWA and in recent years completed his PhD whilst working with Kalyx. Pete has 10 years experience as a Research Officer and an further 9 as a Trials Coordinator. Peter now manages the majority of the companies GM crop trials in WA and co-ordinates and mentors the report writing team in Western Australia

Nicole Whittaker B. Sc

Nicole operates out of Wagga and manages a comprehensive agronomy trial program. Since graduating, Nicole has grown her knowledge on trial management, operating machinery, ag chemistry, weeds, insects and diseases. The "hands on" training Nicole has experienced has been instrumental in her learning strong field research techniques. Her ability to be well organised, combined with her enquiring mind are an asset to her Agronomy trials.

Wade Maloney - B. Rur.SC

After an initial casual stint with Kalyx during his studies, Wade decided to jump in boots and all and join Kalyx on a permanent basis at the Narrabri operation. Wade has recently completed his degree in Rural Science from UNE at Armidale externally. Originating from Tamworth and having a keen interest in all things agriculture Wade is looking forward to kicking off his ag career with Kalyx.

Blair Humphry B.Ag Sc

Blair is a recent graduate of Ag. Science from the University of Western Australia and joins the WA field team. Being from a farming background has enabled Blair to have much knowledge and experience in farming systems as well as a real interest in the way agriculture is changing and how it will change in the future. Blair is very willing to learn and is looking forward to starting his ag career with Kalyx.

Isaac James B.Ag

Based at the Young Office, Isaac completed his Bachelor of Agriculture degree from CSU Wagga in 2015. Isaac has had a varied career path over the last fifteen years including working as a joiner in a kitchen company and then heading to WA to work in the mines. During this time he realised that agriculture was his passion and committed to studying to gain a degree via distance education. Isaac is super keen to learn and develop valuable skills while gaining experience in his agricultural career.

Nicole Pinny B Ag.Sc (Hons)

Nicole moved from chilly Tasmania to tropical Narrabri early in 2012 to quickly become the lynch-pin between the field and the client. Nicole has adjusted to the hectic pace at Narrabri and is in charge of setting up, managing and collating all the trial data associated with the field trials. She also has the responsibility for the management of some field trials herself. Nicole has also been responsible for the establishment of a localised tracking system so that all staff are aware of all aspects of the field program at all times.

Matthew Burley - B.Ag

Originating from Taree in NSW, Matt was one of our original graduates based with Kalyx WA. Matt's request to move back to the east eventuated with the opening of the Toowoomba branch in early 2014 where he was instrumental in the establishment of our Toowoomba office. Matt is responsible for the winter trial program in SQLD and is taking the lead in the expansion of our program into horticulture and pasture work. Matt also assists in the summer trial program were needed. Matt is a well-rounded researcher and has developed a reputation for great trial work.

Alex Murray B.Sc An.

Alex joined Kalyx after developing an interest in agricultural research from working in sales agronomy for 12 months. She is currently studying for her Masters in Agriculture at UNE and works very closely with the field staff to organise logistics, collect and collate data and deliver results in a timely manner to our crop protection and plant breeding clients. Alex has responsibility for some field trials along with managing the grain quality department at harvest

Bridget Doyle B.A Sc (Hons)

Bridget, our enthusiastic research agro in the west, joined Kalyx in October 2012 as part of the graduate program. This year Bridget is running her own seeding team and has responsibility for a large number of agronomy trials. Bridget worked around Corrigin last year under the watchful eye of PC. Bridget has a good eye and is well on the way to establishing a reputation for great trial work.

James Perkins B.Ag.Sc

James started with Kalyx late in 2012 as a graduate research agronomist and was immediately thrown into the land of assessments, followed by a harrowing harvest. Now close to 2 years later James can reflect on the depth of knowledge and experience he has gained in that time. His area of interest is in agronomy research and James has responsibility for all aspects of the agronomy trials located in and around Naracoorte.

Josh Barron B. Rur. Sc (Hons)

Josh has completed his first year at Narrabri. Originating from Cooma, Narrabri was a hot and dusty change. Josh has had a big year learning a lot of new skills and developing his agronomy knowledge and varietal knowledge in northern NSW. Josh has also been quick to introduce and foster a higher level of technology into the system. Josh has an interest in the winter plant breeding area of trial work and is keen to take on higher responsibility in this area of the Narrabri business in 2014.

Mitch Cuell

Mitch could not stay away from the dynamic Narrabri team and returned to his previous research agronomy role after his European adventure in 2013. Mitch, originally from Narrabri is currently finalizing his Ag degree from UNE externally. Mitch is a key member of the sowing and harvest crews and manages the winter breeding program in the Narrabri locality.

Curtis Targett B.Ag.Sc

Curtis graduated in 2013 from CSU in Wagga Wagga. He participated in the 12 week internship with various agronomic enterprises around SW NSW in his final year to get a taste of agronomy. Based in Young, Curtis will spend his first year gaining valuable experience and training in all facets of the Kalyx operation. Originating from Bega on the far south coast of NSW, Curtis has worked on his family's stud beef property from a young age, from which his passion for agriculture started. Curtis is keen to build his knowledge and credibility in the field of crop research.

Caelan McIntosh B.Ag.Sc (Hons)

Caelan originates from Daylesford in Victoria and completed his degree from La Trobe in 2012 with Honors. Caelan has held various casual field roles throughout his studies including working in an organics business, a flower farm and conducting field and lab research at La Trobe. Caelan is based at Naracoorte and will be working alongside the Vic/SA team. Caelan is excited about establishing a career in Research Agronomy.

Rachel Thomson B.Ag.Sc (Hons)

Rachel, a recent graduate from the University of Western Australia, was raised on 'Emu Creek' a family owned cattle station in the Pilbara region of WA. Rachel's passion to work in agriculture stems from her strong farming background with her family operating a sheep and cropping enterprise in Kojonup and Blackrock Angus stud in Vasse. Rachel loves working outdoors and in her spare time enjoys riding and camp drafting.

Edwina Murray B.Sci Ag (Hons)

Edwina originates from Sydney and developed an interested in agriculture after working on a property in Gunning during her time at school. Edwina graduated from the University of Sydney and majored in entomology. In her final year, she completed an honors thesis, investigating the effect of genetically modified cotton on Lepidopteran community dynamics and whether the introduction of new genetic material could be opening ecological space for a new pest to emerge. After graduating Edwina worked for a grain trading and marking firm, before joining the team at Kalyx in Young. Edwina is excited to be outside in the field and getting back into research.

Research Support Team

At Kalyx it's the service that sets us apart from the rest. Our Research Support Team ensure that all information flows efficiently and accurately to our research staff and that trial information and updates are received by clients in a timely manner. This not only allows us to provide the best possible client experience and most reliable research results, it also delivers it in the most efficient manner.

Erika Murray

Erika takes up the position of Research Account Manager at the Young Office and will be the lead in managing the administrative requirements of the GRDC NVT Projects in NSW and QLD. Erika has over 10 years’ experience in the rural sector, managing office administration and procedures in a local agribusiness. Erika has a strong desire to further her knowledge of the agricultural research industry.

Bronwyn Burns - B.App.Sc, GradDipVPHMgt

Bronwyn joins the Kalyx Research SupportTeam in Young after working in a range of administrative and managerial roles in Agricultural Enterprises throughout SW NSW. Bronwyn worked as a Specialist Ranger with the Rural Lands Protection Board at Yass for 6 years, was practise Manager of a Vet Clinic at Boorowa and until starting with Kalyx, was the Operations Administrator with Agfarm at Young. Bronwyn brings to Kalyx a desire to complete her work to a high standard with a great attention to detail.

Caris Smith - B.Sc., Grad.Dip.Sc.Comm.

Caris joined Kalyx after completing the 4th year of her Bachelor of Science Degree at UWA. She majored in both Environmental Management and Land & Water Management, as well as completing a Diploma in Science Communication. Caris grew up on the family farm in Northampton so her understanding at a farm level is invaluable. Caris is based in Carlisle and manages the administrative requirements of our plant breeding clients and also the heavy compliance necessary in GM crop trials and GLP residue studies.

Caitlin Dreckow B.Ag.

Caitlin, takes up the new position of Research Support Team at Naracoorte and will be servicing the clients and staff in the SA/Vic region. Caitlin completed a Bachelor of Agriculture through Roseworthy Campus and has spent the past four years working as both an assistant trials agronomist and in a Sales Merchandise position in the Naracoorte area. Caitlin is looking forward to balancing a predominant trials administrative role with a splash of field work in agronomy.

Michelle Gay - B.SC (Hons)

Michelle takes up the role of GLP Research Administrator based in Carlisle. Michelle completed a Bachelor of Science (Hons) though Curtin University in 2014 and is looking forward to the challenges of her first 'official job' by putting her skills and knowledge into practice with Kalyx. Michelle joins the friendly crew who look after the needs of our valued clients.

Alicia Greenhill - B.Bio.Sci (Hons)

Alicia takes up the role of GLP Test Facility Manager and is based in Melbourne. Alicia is in the final stages of completing a PhD at Latrobe in Sclerotinia and during this time has been working for Crop Protect Research in all aspects of GLP, being Study Director and also doing a reasonable amount of field work. Alicia has worked in PC2 labs on GM crops and is presently also doing some lecturing at LaTrobe University Melbourne.

Meredith Herring - PhD, B.Sc Ag (Hons)

Meredith joins Kalyx with a wealth of knowledge and over 20 years' experience in agricultural research which includes managing cotton breeding operations, designing, managing and analysing field trials. Meredith has a multi faceted role whereby she is required to analyse data and manage the administration associated with regulated trials in the office as well as be actively involved in the management and assistance of field trials.

Tess Deasey

Tess has joined the Kalyx Research Support Team in Young. Born and raised in the Young area, Tess grew up on the family farm where her agricultural influence started. Tess has always had an interest for an agriculture grounded job previously being employed for 5 years at local stockfeed supplier. Tess understands the importance of furthering her knowledge to benefit both herself and the business.

Jamie Thornberry - B.Sc Ag

Jamie graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Agricultural Science from CSU in Wagga Wagga. Jamie has fundamental experience having previously worked as a trials and extension agronomist focussing on extending project research to growers within the Central Western Area. Jamie’s passion for agriculture stems from working on the family farm in Canowindra, NSW with a core focus on wheat and prime lamb production. His main role at Kalyx is to work closely with field staff to collect and collate data.

Sarah Osborne - B.Sc Eq

Sarah grew up in Melbourne and gained her agricultural interest from visiting her grandparents farm in Wagga Wagga. After completing her Equine Science degree at NMIT in Melbourne, Sarah moved to Young in October 2015 where she has worked at the local Credit Union. Sarah is excited to be joining the Kalyx Research Support Team in Young in 2018 and is keen to extend her knowledge in the agricultural industry.

Research Technicians

The Kalyx Research Technicians are integral to the look and feel of the trials. These guys will stop at nothing to ensure trials look well maintained, are well presented and ready for inspection. They are key members of the seeding and harvest teams and are instrumental in maintaining our grower co-operator relationships.

Dylan Crane - Mechanic

Dylan takes up the role of WA Mechanic and is based at Carlisle. Dylan is responsible for equipment repair and maintenance and is also available for occasional field work if required. Dylan is excited about his role within Kalyx and is enjoying the working environment.

Jamie Davis

Jamie is the latest addition to the SNSW field team and brings to Kalyx over 10 years agricultural experience, along with extensive farm machinery operation skills. Jamie is eager to increase his knowledge by learning the how, what and why involved with trial work. In his spare time Jamie enjoys showing cattle, water skiing and spending time with his family.

Ellie Hatton

Ellie, a local girl from Narrabri has joined the NNSW team in the role as Research Technician. Since completing her HSC, Ellie has gained invaluable agriculture experience (mainly cotton) through seasonal employment. Super keen and enthusiastic, Ellie prides herself on her positive attitude to all aspects of work and has a real passion for agriculture.

Michael Corbett

Michael grew up on a farm near Young before embarking into a career as a boiler maker. He joined the field team at Young in 2010 after a long career in the construction and structural steel industry. For 7 years prior he worked as the Operations Manager at a local seed cleaning and treatment plant that specialised in most herbicide tolerant canola varieties. Michael has sound practical skills, a great logistics head, and sound machinery knowledge that helps out for sowing, spraying, maintaining and harvesting trials. Michael is also responsible for header and seeder servicing and maintenance.

Peter Hines

Peter started with us in 2001. Formerly a local farmer, Pete's role is to support the research agronomists. Pete is responsible for all aspects of trial maintenance including pegging, site selection, sowing, weed control and harvest. He operates with integrity and demonstrates exceptional trial hygiene and maintains faultless records. As one of the senior members of the Agritech team, Pete regularly shares his wisdom and knowledge with the younger staff

Howard Amos

Our most recently appointed Research Technician, Howard joined Kalyx after helping out his son Nic for a few harvests and seeding's in NSW. Howard, a mechanic by trade has over 30 years experience in the motor vehicle industry in SA. With exceptional machinery knowledge and great people skills, Howard will be an integral part of the SA Team.

Heath Mibus

Heath joined us in 2013 when we opened the Horsham Office. Heath has a good base of field trials knowledge accumulated close to 5 years experience as a Technical Officer with the Vic DPI in Horsham. Heath's experience encompasses selecting and pegging sites, sowing and harvesting field trials, keeping good records, managing the spraying program for the trials and experience with GPS guidance systems. Heath will handle the trial program for the Horsham district and surrounds.

Adam Potter

Adam joins the Kalyx field team at Young as a Research Assistant. Having worked in a variety of other fields, Adam has quickly adjusted to the variety and frantic pace of field research. Adam supports the field team by helping out with shed and trial logistics, sourcing trial supplies, machinery maintenance, seed packing and grain analysis and the odd assessment when required. Adam is always willing to help anyone who needs a hand - a real team player.

Aaron Smith

Aaron is our newly appointed Research Technician in WA after making a great impression while employed casually for the 2014 harvest with the Kalyx team. Aaron has experience in farming systems as well as machinery maintenance, which will prove invaluable in his current role of supporting the field team.

Libby Baguley - Technical Assistant

This is Libby's first permanent position since completing her HSC locally in 2011 and after working on a casual basis at Kalyx Narrabri. Libby holds a great love for agriculture, has a wiliness to learn and super keen to gain a full and through understanding of what Kalyx is about - which is a perfect mix with her role as Technical Assistant in supporting the NNSW field team.

Graduate Research Agronomists

Our graduate research agronomists are where the Kalyx quality begins. Recruiting top calibre graduates and training them the Kalyx way ensures that the work being conducted in the field is at the standard expected of all of our field staff. By working alongside experienced agronomists and technicians, the graduates can ask numerous questions, make mistakes, learn from them and aim to be the best in their field. They are also exposed to numerous field days and staff, training days. We encourage their thirst for knowledge. By bringing in new, young, energetic professionals into Kalyx, it allows the business to continue to thrive and keep abreast of new technologies. It also allows us to be a part of developing some of the Agricultural professionals of the future.

Rachael Smith B.Agric.

Rachael grew up in NSW on the Central Coast and then in the Hunter Valley. She worked as a casual grain assistant throughout university before graduating from Charles Sturt University in 2015. Rachael has spent the last 18 months working in WA as a research agronomist doing a range of trial work before she decided to move back home to NSW joining the Kalyx team in Young in April 2017. Rachael is keen to extend her knowledge in the research trial field. 

Grace Williams B.Ag.Sc.

Grace originates from the Wheatbelt town of Kellerberrin, and has recently completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Agricultural Science at the University of Western Australia. Grace has a passion for rural life and is keenly interested in improving the profitability and sustainability of Australian agriculture; she is excited to learn and expand her current skill set while at Kalyx. In her spare time, Grace is a talented Cellist and enjoys Yoga. 

Brett Bushell B.Sci Ag (Hons)

Brett, a recent graduate from the University of Sydney, grew up in the Macarthur and Southern Tablelands regions of NSW. Brett developed a strong interest in agriculture from a young age, and while he did not grow up on a commercial farming property, exposure to agriculture throughout his early years have lead him to pursue a career in agricultural science. Brett majored in agronomy in his final year of study, focusing specifically on weed management. Brett’s honors project involved investigating the crop-weed competition dynamics between summer legume crops and summer annual weeds. Brett joined the team at Young after completing his degree and is looking forward to working and learning in an outdoor environment.

Nellie Evans B.Sci Ag (Hons)

Nellie, is a recent graduate of the University of Sydney, originating from Robertson in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Nellie gained a keen interest in research agronomy through her work experience on farms across the Western District, particularly in the areas of cotton and dryland cropping. Upon completion of her honours project; investigating ‘the diversity among chickpea lines for nitrogen fixation’, she joined the team at Kalyx, Young. Nellie is excited to be a part of the innovative team at Kalyx and become a Young Local.

Emily Miller B.Agric.BusMgt.

Emily is WA’s latest Graduate Research Agronomist with a Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management from CSU in Northam. Emily previously worked with the WA team on a casual basis during harvest last year and obviously liked what she saw. Emily has a passion for agriculture, a strong focus on continuous improvement and is excited about being part of the Kalyx team and strengthening her ag experience.

Commercial & Administration Team

Claudia McKinnon - Management Accountant

Based in the Carlisle Office, Claudia plays a valuable part of the Finance team overseeing and managing the finance department together with the Finance Director. Claudia has a wealth of cross industry experience including exposure to Australian local and national markets as well as UK markets and along with preparing and monitoring budgets will keep Directors informed and updated on Kalyx financial performances.

Angela Hampson - Accounts Receivable Officer

A member of Kalyx since 1998, Angela's experience in trial procedures is invaluable and she is responsible for taking care of Accounts Receivable and a wide range of other general financial activities. Ang has an eye for detail and has long set the standard in Kalyx in ensuring that the data that comes out of the office is of the highest possible standard.

Hannah Parish - Branch Administration Officer

Hannah commenced work as the branch administration officer at the Young branch during our busiest time, harvest. This is Hannah's first permanent position since completing her HSC locally in 2012. Hannah is in the perfect position to learn the Kalyx business from the ground up, and gain a full and thorough understanding of the administrative requirements of our growing business.

Robyn Smith - Branch Administration Officer

Robyn looks after the administrative requirements of the Narrabri Office. Robyn also is responsible for the implementing and maintaining WH&S documentation and the recruitment of casuals. Robyn commenced with Kalyx just prior to the merger and has an extensive background in administration and office management. Robyn plays a national role in the development of Kalyx procedures.

Natalie Cleveland - Branch Administration Officer

Natalie takes up the position of Branch Administration Officer at the Carlisle office currently working three days a week until she finishes studying and then anticipates moving to four days early 2015. Natalie has previously held a variety of administration, receptionist and HR assistant roles. Natalie is responsible for the management of the Carlisle office administration, is personal assistant to the Western Directors, handles all casual recruitment and administers the WH&S for WA staff.

Jennifer Eastwood - Branch Administration Officer

Jennifer has the important role of Branch Administration Officer SA.VIC and is based at the Naracoorte Office managing casual recruitments and all administrative requirements for the branch.
